Once considered purely a utilitarian trade, modern day blacksmiths have forged an artistic reputation for the unique sculptural forms wrought using ancient forging techniques.

In Discovery Fe26, Blacksmith artists from across the Mid North Coast and Australia have been inspired by the anniversary of John Oxley crossing the Hastings River 200 years ago. This exhibition is a reflection on the immediate and ongoing positive and negative ramifications of the first encounters of Europeans and indigenous inhabitants, expressing those through sculptural works.

The Artist Blacksmiths Association of NSW was formed in Wauchope over 24 years ago and now represents blacksmith artists Australia wide.
