David Martin will not only explain the exhibition’s central theme and purpose, but also describe how it began, and the highs and lows of the project’s development. There will be brief biographies given of the seven artists whose artworks are featured. A special treat will be the opportunity to examine the high-resolution digital scans and photographs of the earliest artworks of Port Macquarie up close on the projection screen!

Port Macquarie 200 profiles the contributions of seven artists who chose Port Macquarie as their subject during the course of two centuries. This is an historical journey, as much for the Australian European-style of art itself, as it is for the township. Special inclusions are the very earliest artworks of Port Macquarie, a selection of sketches by the inspirational female figure Eirene Mort, and a series of previously unseen vibrant watercolours painted by Sir Lionel Lindsay in 1916.
