The Glasshouse - One year on

Written By : Terry Sara on Thursday, 1 July 2010

220,000 people through the door
70,000+ have visited the Gallery
43,000+ have enjoyed a theatre performance

Twelve months ago the Glasshouse opened its doors to the curious public for the first time. And they have come in their thousands. And not just to see the building itself – but to enjoy performances and exhibitions, book accommodation and attend the multitude of public programs offered by the Glasshouse team.

“Let the figures speak for themselves,” said Glasshouse Manager, Mr Joe Conneely. “In just one year, 220,000 people have walked through the doors, over 70,000 people have visited the Gallery and 43,000 people have been to the theatre. There has also been over $1.2 million in box office sales and over $1 million in accommodation sales through the Visitor Information Centre.”

“I could go on – however what the figures prove is that the shows, exhibitions, conferences and visitor services provided by the Glasshouse team in the past twelve months have been well received and appreciated by the community.”

Next week 597 delegates from the Australian National Choral Association will attending Choralfest at the Glasshouse, which is a four day conference and performance showcase.

Morning Music starts again on 12 July with an On Broadway show, and plays A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and Bell Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night will hit the stage later this month. Musicians Sarah Blasko, Graeme Connors and Aussie rock icon Jon English are also coming to town in the coming months.

“The Glasshouse team are focussed on being the leading creative centre and additional income generated by more shows, exhibitions and conferences we can work at reducing the running cost of the building for the community,” said Mr Conneely.
