F1 Powerboats To Race In Port

Written By : Terry Sara on Wednesday, 16 June 2010

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has secured Round Five of the Australian Formula One Powerboat Grand Prix to be held in July this year.

This high powered exciting event will see around 50 boats competing on the Hastings River.

Council’s Sports and Events Manager, Mark Ella said, “This is a great event for the Hastings and will be stunning viewing for spectators at McInherney Park.

“While McInherney Park normally precludes powered watercraft, a Council resolution in 2006 allows for special events as approved by the General Manager, subject to public notification and the satisfaction of any other normal Council approval processes.

“Council has written to residents advising that the event will be held on the 23rd to 25th July,” Mr Ella said.

“This is yet another greatly anticipated event for the Hastings which is expected to gain national recognition. The event is highly suited to both television audiences and spectator viewing,” Mr Ella said.
