What is the F1 Power Boating?
Like its car racing counterpart, Formula 1 Power Boating is an international competition where teams compete across a number of prepared international circuits in the classic Grand Prix style. Each race lasts about 45 minutes and takes place across a "track" measuring about 350 metres with multiple turns.
Meanwhile, the Australian F1 Power Boat Grand Prix is a non-profit association organisation that is "driver run and owned". This year over 40 teams from around Australia will compete in the 6 Round Series, which will include including Port Macquarie's Hastings River this year. The races include three classes of professional formula powerboats and a standard production Sports Mono class as well as the Formula Futures for junior drivers.
“This is a great event for the Hastings and will be stunning viewing for spectators at McInherney Park," says Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Sports and Events Manager, Mark Ella.
The Vessels
These specially designed tunnel hull catamarans weren't just made for speed - they were made to fly! These boats propel themselves out of the water, turning on a tin dime - you've gotta see it to believe it!
And the crashes are as dramatic and shell shocking as anything you'd see on the tarmac.
The F1 Power Boat series comes to Port Macquarie 23 - 25 July.
